Music Venue Grants - 2021 (Round Three)!

INDIANAPOLIS – August 12th, Mayor Joe Hogsett announced the third round of funding for the Music Cities Strategy Recovery Program, a grant program directed at independent music venues experiencing negative economic consequences from the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications are available at musicalfamilytree.org/blog and will be due by August 27, 2021.

The $250,000 extension of the program is made available by the City through funding from the American Rescue Plan, an allocation approved by the City-County Council earlier this summer. The program will be administered by Musical Family Tree, Inc., and is made possible in part through the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Last year, the City and MFT awarded over $336,000 to 37 grantees between the first two rounds of the Music Cities Strategy Recovery Program.

The pandemic is not over yet, and even as residents continue to be vaccinated and enjoy more of our local music scene, our independent venues are still in need of a boost. As the stage lights turn on again and vaccinated fans return back to enjoying their favorite acts, this grant will provide additional support to our independent venue operators.
— Mayor Hogsett
Independent music venues are the lifeblood of the music scene, where local musicians learn their trade and build careers. MFT has been excited to be a partner with the City of Indianapolis over the last year and a half, awarding almost half a million dollars in funding to venues in a time of crisis. We’ll continue to look for ways to help the music community through this.
— Jim Rawlinson, Board Chair of Musical Family Tree

The program is open to independent music venues located within Marion County. Grants are to be used for overhead costs, which may include monthly rent or mortgage payments, utility payments, and other eligible reimbursable expenses, if incurred or paid between March 3, 2021 and August 15, 2020. Venues may apply for a grant of up to $20,000 by providing documentation of paid rent/mortgage, utilities expenses, and other eligible reimbursable expense from the previously mentioned period.
