Venues Seek Support At Statehouse With HB-1569

House Bill 1569 Indiana Stages Relief was recently introduced at the Indiana Statehouse. This new piece of legislation would allow venue operators, producers, and promoters to apply for grant programs on a state level, that have been impacted financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This bill has been introduced by Representative Blake Johnson and co-authored by Representative Mike Andrade and attracted bipartisan support of Representative Jerry Torr. If passed, this bill would be administered through the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), and would allow those eligible to receive up to 20% of their 2019 revenue.

Venues were fortunate enough to be included in the federal legislation, passed in December, which paved the way for nearly $15 billion dollars in Shuttered Venue Operator Grants. While this landmark legislation will have a huge impact on struggling venues, there is no timeline for when funds will make their way to the venues in need.

HB-1569 will be instrumental in providing gap support to venues who have depleted all of their resources. These same venues are trying to prepare for a potential reopening phase and outdoor season. Until something happens, they are all stuck at the starting line.

Additional legislation that helps support small businesses includes HB-1004 and SB 323 – Music Production Incentive Program.

Local business and music fans are encouraged to reach out to your local representatives and vocalize your support for HB-1569.
